Light of the World Award

I am excited to announce that I was nominated for the Light of the World Award! I was actually nominated by T.R., of Inside Cup this May and I am just now getting to it. It’s a bit embarrassing but…well lets just quit dilly-dallying and get to it 😄

I am relatively new to posting about my faith, and as this blog covers several topics I was somewhat surprised by the nomination. But make no mistake, I am very honored to accept and to humbly share the posts God places on my heart.

More About Who Nominated Me

So T.R. nominated me, and she blogs over at Inside Cup, which is a great site and resource for the community of believers.

T.R. has very much made her blog about reaching out to and connecting the body of believers. One of the categories of her blog that I love is her section on Bible study. (I read through the portion on Numbers recently as I was studying the book.) Fantastic resource T.R ☺

Who Created the Award?

Joe, from Light House Devotion is the blogger who created the award. I love his focus on lighthouses and the symbolism of believers shining as lighthouses (with God’s help) for all to see. I reccomend checking out his blog, particularly the post “Even the Broken Can Shine!

For the rules of the award, you can check out this page on Joe’s blog.

  1. What three words would you use to describe your blog? I would use the words unassuming, gentle and honest.
  2. In what way(s) can a Christian shine for Christ? One way that I can think of is described in Matthew 25:14-30. Here Jesus illustrates The Parable of the Talents. I’ve come to see this passage more as using the gifts He has given us (not necessarily monetary) and using them the best we know how, to glorify Him. For me, this looks like sharing my writing with others, with the intention to help, educate and encourage. Sometimes with a great bit of prodding *chuckles to self*.
  3. What bible verse (quote it) talks about being a light in a lost and dark world? “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
  4. What Christian song do you know that has the word “light” in it? Provide a link, if available. I chose the song “Chasing the Daylight, by Phillip Larue. It came out in 2009, but it’s the first song that came to mind. To me, this song describes what it really feels like to be a believer. It isn’t always all roses, and sometimes others will not understand our faith. Sometimes darkness, in whatever form, comes into our life. But we have to chase the daylight, keep running after Him.

(Or, if difficulties arise, you can view the video here.)

Here are 5 uplifting blogs that I am nominating for the Light of the World Award. You guys are wonderful! Thank-you for sharing your light with the world.

Guys, there is no pressure to accept and if you do, don’t worry about timing. (It took me 6 months!)

Know that what you are doing is valuable to others and most importantly, to God!

The Fall Tag

Processed with Rookie Cam

Many thanks to Maggie, of the blog Dreaming of Guatemala for creating this Fall Tag. What a neat idea! Kinda like spreading Christmas cheer, but with fall. I love it. I have been tagged by T.R. Noble, of the blog Peaking Beneath 🙂 Thanks T.R.!

1. Put the tag badge and rules in your post.

2. Answer the 10 fall-related questions.

3. Tag at least 5 other bloggers to join in the fun!

1. What’s your favorite fall outfit?

Skinny jeans, probably with an orange shirt and my favorite long purple cardigan. I am decidedly not fashion minded, more comfort loving. I do love wearing fall colors and cozy scarves though.

2. What is the fall weather like where you live?

I live in the midwestern area of the USA. Typically fall weather begins a bit earlier than it has this year. For October, it has been uncharacteristically hot..reaching into the upper 80s earlier in the month. We are in deep fall now though. The temperature has dropped and soon I gather it will become wet and ick. But for now, we enjoy our crisp and picturesque fall. Short as it may be.

A few years ago we went to The Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Vermont. We got to see the cider being made & it was sooo good!

3. Your favorite drink to have in the fall?

I am a mulled apple cider girl. I love it. And it must be hot! So many memories I have tied to this special drink.

4. Does your family have any fall traditions? If so, what are they?

We enjoy doing a few things. We have fall snacks and typically carve a pumpkin. I save and dry the seeds. We rake leaves and let the kids play in them. Last year I took the kids out to a farm where they got to play in a giant swimming pool full of corn, which they loved. My daughter was a baby and wanted to eat it. My son never wanted to leave. We all had a lot of fun. Sometimes we go to a festival or two as a family. Music, vendors, food. All that good stuff.

5. What are some activities and events you enjoy going to in the fall months?

Haha so I guess I went on a tangent in the answer to question #4. (See above.)

6. What’s your favorite fall scented candle?

Oh my so I got these wax melts from Aldi that are pumpkin brulee scented and they. smell. so. divine.

I don’t use candles much bc I’m afraid I’ll forget about them. (I’m slightly paranoid, ok?) So wax warmers are my thing. I’m dying to try this one but my lightbulb gave out on my wax warmer. So I need to buy another. I think that’s the problem anyway.

7. Tell us about one of your favorite fall memories?

One of my very best memories I have is of my brothers and I raking leaves and jumping in them. I loved that. We all worked together. Giggling. Having fun. Mom would take our picture. It was a fun time.

8. What are some fall movies you enjoy watching?

I guess I don’t particularly have any. Although we used to always watch The Christmas Story (with the Red Rider bb gun and the leg lamp) on Thanksgiving.

9. What’s your favorite fall treat?

I love apple dumplings. I don’t eat them often. Typically only once or twice a year. And that’s what makes them special 🙂 They are so good with that warm cinnamon sauce!

10. If you celebrate Halloween, what is the best outfit you’ve worn?

Oh boy I haven’t gone trick-or-treating or worn a Halloween costume in a long time. I can’t remember many of my costumes, or how many years my family did trick-or-treating. I remember one year my Grandma made me a Jasmine costume because I was a hardcore Aladdin fan. That was special and so thoughtful of her. I appreciate it much more now than I did then.

My tags:

I’ve decided to leave the tags open! It’s a bit tricky to decide who might want to participate. So if you want to and have not been tagged yet, go ahead! It’s a lot of fun 🙂

Happy Fall!

One Lovely Blog Award & Liebster Award

I was nominated for 2 blogging awards and I’m finally getting around to accepting. Sorry it took me so long guys!

The first award is from the talented T.R. Noble, of Inside Cup. T.R. and I are blogger friends and real life friends as well. Her blog tagline is “Getting to know God from the inside out.” It so fits her blog. Her blog, her ministry has been a blessing in my life as it makes me think and has helped me grow as a believer. I most recently enjoyed her post Prayer, What To Pray, which is about developing a deeper prayer life and saying no to the things that hinder a closer walk with Christ.

  1. Each nominee must thank the person who nominated them and link their blog in their post!
  2. They must include the rules & add the blog award as an image.
  3. Must add 7 facts about themselves.
  4. Nominate 15 people for the award (Or however many you want!)

  1. When I was a small girl, I wanted to be a ballerina when I grew up.
  2. I’m really into foraging and learning all I can about the beautiful green world around me.
  3. I’m quite drawn to the color orange. A lot of the flowers in my garden are orange or yellow.
  4. The Count of Monte Cristo is one of the books I am currently reading. So far I love it.
  5. I like to read a minimum of 2-3 books at a time.
  6. I dislike it when people, however well-meaningly stated, tease me about my slenderness. Ain’t nothing I can change about it and trust me, I’ve tried! I am me and this means embracing the body God has given me.
  7. Before I was a blogger, I was a poet. I wrote tons of poetry, the bulk of it in my last 2 years of high school. I want to get back to writing poetry. I’m going to start integrating purposeful moments where I can sit and reflect to further this goal 🙂

I nominate these two blogs (should they choose to accept) for The One Lovely Blog Award:

Look for the Good -a blog about striving for positivity in the midst of difficulty. She also blogs about travel and book reviews. I love her different approach!

Deep in the Heart of Textiles – all about textiles (beautiful antique quilts, woven items and others) and picturesque nature photography.

Thank-you Sharon from Leadership2Mommyship! This award was completely unexpected but I am grateful that you thought of me  🙂 What I love best about Sharon’s blog is that it pushes me to envision my goals and go after them wholeheartedly. I was blessed by her post Crave the Day: Have Goals? Get Uncomfortable. I totally needed to hear what she had to say! Goals are so important and I need to focus more in this area of my life.

Sharon’s Questions:

  1.  Why do you blog? I blog for two reasons: for myself and for others. I want to improve my writing skills, connect with other like minded people and share my thoughts. But mainly when I started my blog we had just been through a very trying time period financially. I knew there were thrify tips out there and I found them on other blogs. Reading all that knowledge and encouragement..I realised I wanted to add to that beauty.
  2.  How did your blog name come about? The Buttercup Lamb is a mix of one of my favorite flowers and an animal I’ve always been fond of. My name Rachel actually means “like a lamb” so that is where that part comes into play. Lambs are gentle creatures, and a gentle approach is what I seek to convey in my posts. The two words together speak of all things outdoorsy and natural which is another focus of my blog.
  3.  What goals do you have for your writing/blog? Wow tough question! For my writing I want to continue adding posts to my core categories (food, books, toddler activities). Becoming a better writer and blogger is an ongoing process. I know I have much to learn but I also have a few dreams for the blog. First, I’d like to make it to 50 posts which should be between now and the beginning of October.
  4. What do you like most about blogging? That feeling I get after I put a lot of effort into a post and people tell me they love it/were blessed by it.
  5.  What do you like least about blogging? Trying to balance time with my family with time to blog. Sometimes I wonder if I’m doing it right! Oh and spam comments. Bleh.
  6.  What causes are you passionate about? Carry the Future is an organization that gives aide and baby carriers to refugees, especially those in the Middle East. I need to gather some things to send in I keep putting it off! I also am very passionate about any cause that focuses on rescuing human trafficking victims. I applaud Joel and Luke of the band For King & Country for the awareness they have brought to the issue through their music and the movie “Priceless”.
  7. If you could pack your bags tomorrow and visit anywhere in the world, where would you go? Undoubtedly to the UK to see all the places where Jane Austen lived. I so want to go!
  8. What skill are you trying to acquire/improve upon at the moment? Hmm. Currently I am reading up on knitting because I would like to learn. I like sewing and cross stitch but I’d like to begin knitting too.
  9. What is your favorite motivation quote? “Wherever you are, be all there. Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God.” -Jim Elliot
  10. If you could be a fairy tale character, which would you choose? Good question! I guess throughout my childhood I’ve always loved Pocahontas. Is she a fairy tale character? If not, Rapunzel. She has sweet hair.
  11. Which of your posts are you most proud of?  Please share a link. Breastfeeding vs. Formula: The Good, the Bad and Everything in Between about my feeding experiences with my children and how you should not feel guilty about your choice. It was in my brain for a long time before I wrote it and at least 2 women told me they were very blessed by it. Also my Friendship (Is Greater Than) Politics post about the characters from L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables series and how they had full friendships in spite of political differences. It was an interesting and fun post to write.

I nominate these three blogs for the Liebster Award:

Boo Wholefoods-Rebecca blogs about how to eat well on a budget and discusses how emotions, excercise and diet are all intertwined. Her posts are encouraging and good reminders for me.

Sarah Emsley-is a writer and editor from Novia Scotia and Alberta who writes about authors like Jane Austen (my fav!) L.M. Montgomery, and Edith Wharton. She posts beautiful photos and helpful information about a variety of topics mainly related to these 3 authors.

Inside Cup-A fascinating blog by T.R. Noble. She shares her thoughts and scriptures that work to edify the spiritual walk of belivers in Christ. T.R. is also working on a Christian Fantasy book series which I look forward to reading upon its completion. Thank-you for blessing me with the nominations T.R.! I’m happy to take this opportunity to pass along the blessing 🙂

My questions, should these bloggers choose to accept this nomination:

  1. What is the most exotic/weird food you have ever eaten?
  2. What is a food that you like specific to the region or country that you are from?
  3. What is your favorite childhood book?
  4. What book(s) are you currently reading?
  5. Do you have a garden or houseplants? (If so, what are you growing?)
  6. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
  7. What is your favorite motivational quote?
  8. If time travel was an option, would you do it?
  9. In one sentence, what is your core reason for blogging?
  10. What do you like most about blogging?
  11. What posts are you most proud of? Please share a link.

This post is getting lengthy but I wanted to add that if you want to find out more about The Liebster Award…the origin, meaning and rules they are here.

TheCramm Award

I recently had the pleasure of receiving a nomination for TheCramm award by my friend T.R. Noble, of the Inside Cup blog. Yay! These blogging awards can be fun. I love seeing how it connects the blogging community together.

TheCramm award is somewhat mysterious as to its origins. But so far we’ve all agreed it was created by Liv, of TheCramm. Interesting site but not positive as to its exact connection to the award. Apparently no one knows (as far as I can see anyway). Ah well. Moving on.

The rules for the award are to answer the questions:

-3 things that motivate you to blog.

-3 people that motivate you to blog

-1 thing to improve the world

-Then you finish by answering the question of the blogger who nominated you, nominating a few other fellow bloggers (if you wish) and asking them a question of your own.

Here are my answers.

Three things that motivate me to blog

  1. Motherhood, in a way, motivates me. Chatting about parenting, concerns that we all share as mothers…I will never run out of material to work with haha.
  2. Self-motivation. I began this blog in 2014 as a means to see what would happen if I jumped in and started blogging. So in a way this blog is a promise to myself. Sticking to a task isn’t super easy for me so blogging here helps keep me patient, consistent and on task.
  3. Chocolate. Chocolate motivates me to blog. I’m currently hooked on the bars of 70% dark chocolate from Aldi.

Three people that motivate me to blog

  1. The ladies from my church who have encouraged me from my early blog days and continue to do so. There have been times when I’ve grown discouraged but I’m thankful for them!
  2. My good friend T.R. from Inside Cup! She has also been so encouraging 🙂 In life there are always trials, even when it comes to blogging and I’m thankful for her support and encouragement (here on the blog and in person too!)
  3. God. This post, this blog, my life would not be complete without Him. He gives me words to say. Light to shine. Love to give even though I don’t deserve it.

One thing to improve the world?

Responsible trash disposal. Pretty much the first thing that popped into my head. I’m not the type to scold people in public. Littering is just a minor irritation I have. Go green and make the world a better place for everyone by taking care of your trash. Even just putting an empty gum wrapper into your pocket is something.

T.R.’s question was:

“What was a time in your life in which something happened, and you wish it would have went better than it did? Would you change this moment now if you had the chance?”

There are a lot. A lot of things come to mind here. One major occurance goes like this. I was young, 19. I had graduated from high school, worked for a year. When it came time to choose a college, I went with the closest Christian University. I did not pray enough. I did not think to ponder or to seek what God wanted. And I found out in so many ways that that college was not a good fit. Oh so not. I came home, defeated, broken. But God, when I finally opened my heart to Him, helped me up. And you know, right about that time my future husband and I started dating.

So would I do it over? I don’t know. That’s a hard question. I guess my answer right now would be “no”. Because who’s to say if I would have ended up happily married, as I am today? I treasure that blessing and to have it taken away even if it meant sparing myself temporary disappointment and difficulty? No. I do not want that. Thank-you Lord, for turning difficult moments into things of beauty❤

My nominations for The Cramm award I’m leaving open. See this post and want to accept the award? Go for it! If you do, here is my question:

If you had to pick a day in your life to live over again, exactly as it was, which would you pick?

Versatile Blogger Award

I was recently nominated for The Versatile Blogger award by my good friend T.R. Noble from Inside Cup. (Thank-you T.R.!) She writes with eloquence and wisdom, addressing many topics and difficulties in the believers life. Her blog is a place where you can find direction and encouragement. Read more about Inside Cup here.

What is The Versatile Blogger award? Not gonna lie, I had to look it up. It narrows down to this: it is a chance to be a blessing to those who have blessed you. Love a blog? Think they deserve some credit? Nominate them!

Rules for this award:

1. Thank your nominator and share a link to their blog.

2. Share seven fact about yourself that your readers may not know.

3. Nominate at least 10 other bloggers and inform them about the nomination.

Lesser Known Facts About Me:

1. I am a Jane Austen nut. Not in a “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” kind of way though.

2. I own way too much lipbalm. Myriads of it.

3. As a stay-at-home mom I often question my sanity.

4. I would choose a 20-page paper over a presentation any day. Words, yes. Actually speaking to people…comes out awkward. Always.

5. I have weird hair.

6. Gardening is more than a hobby for me. It restores something in my soul.

7. I’m currently doing a study on the book of Romans through The Time-Warp Wife. Romans is woah.

I’m nominating 5 people for The Versatile Blogger award. Not because I’m a cheater (ok I am) but because I actually don’t know a lot of bloggers yet. The ones I do know have all been nominated.
